Manufacture of Tablet Coatings
Film coatings are used on pharmaceutical tablets and capsule to enhance the appearance and identify the tablet, make it easier to swallow by allowing a smoother surface as well as masking any unpleasant tastes or smell associated with the tablet, protect the active ingredient as well as controlling the release of the active ingredient into the body.
Consisting of a sugar/cellulose based-binder, plasticizer, film-forming agent and colourant, these ingredients all come in either a powder or granulated form and are required to be mixed with water or another liquid. The powder or granulated ingredients are added to the liquid and are hydrated and dispersed into solution. Ensuring the right mixer for your process is critical in order to achieve successful hydration and dispersion of the powder. The finished coating is sprayed onto the tablets. Mixquip agitators are designed and manufactured as high-quality, long-lasting and highly efficient in order to deliver the precision, performance and consistency, as well as strict CIP requirements, needed to manufacture tablet coatings.
